A Valentines Poll
NOTE! If you enjoy this post, please feel free to twitter it with the tinylink http://tinyurl.com/23z9kf. Thanks, I appreciate it!
A snow storm and very low temps has kept me sequestered in my studio working on Journal covers and Valentines designs.
I tend to have a hard time looking into the future, so wrapping my brain around Valentines designs before the holidays were even over was not easy!
Valentines has always been one of my favorite holidays. It allows that silly romantic in me to come out and play. (Plus, red & pink are 2 of my fav colors)
But, let’s face it, Valentines is a mixed bag for so many people. Some folks really hate the day. If your love life is not what you wish it to be, it can feel like a slap in the face. If you aren’t one to share your feelings of endearment and love, it can seem royally irritating! And then, as with any holiday, there is that pressure…..to buy something for whoever that someone special is to show your love and gratitude.
So, I decided that I needed to sit down and ask some questions in order to come up with some unique designs.
Then, I thought…what do others think about this holiday? What do they typically do?
Which brings me to the point of this post. A poll. Please be kind to this artist and click on a few circles and tell me what you think!
I know, I know, its only Jan 6th and you probably don’t even have the Christmas tree down yet…well, I don’t yet…but like I said…I gotta think ahead!! So, along with the goddess of all things hearts and chocolates, we have an incentive. After you vote, leave a comment, telling me what you really think about Valentines and the type of celebrating you do and what you like getting or giving and at the beginning of February, I will draw a name from the comments and create a special design for you to be put on an item of your choice (selected from a few Cafepress items) Thanks!

What I look forward to, at Valentines day is a card stating the reasons why they love me, a nice box of chocolates and flowers are always nice. Valentines day for those that are together is the reaffirmation of our love for one another.

I look forward to Valentine’s Day every year. My husband is wonderfully romantic and always plans something special. He always cooks a scrumptious dinner for us. He always gives me at least 2 cards, along with a box of chocolate but then gives me something different, such as a CD made of my fav songs. Or a book that I’ve been wanting. He can be very creative. Valentines Day is yet another day for us to reconnect.

Great poll! Valentines has always been one of my favorite holidays… and I am in the floral business so it can be quite hectic. I vasilate between the humorous and the sentimental (as does he) when it comes to giving my husband gifts. And we also like to add a dash of “spice” too..
Thanks for asking,

Valentines day has been a mixed bag for me. I remember many a holiday when I had no “irons in the fire” so to speak, and spent the day very depressed. I have a wonderful husband now, and I love the day, in whatever form it takes.
I decorate my mantle with antique valentines that I have collected over the years, send cards or emails to all those I love, including friends and family. I buy my kids and granddaughter little presents.
My husband and I share the holiday by going away (if we have time and money) or going to dinner, or just staying home and giving one another a special gift.
Now that I am older and wiser, I I think even if I did not have a sweetie I would look at Valentines day as a day to celebrate those we love in our lives. The gift of friendship and family is priceless.

In my home country, Holland, Valentines Day was not a big thing when I left. The 8 years I spend living in the Dominican Republic showed we that people from a very poor country care enough to spend the little money they have to buy something small for their loved one. Now that I live in NY I see the whole ‘hype’ of Valentines Day. I say hype, because I do not like the way the prices for flowers go up immensely around that day. But I do not skip a year without buying my hubby something and hiding various card throughout the house and sending my dearest friends a card.
Hugs,
Yvonne

I think that all holidays fall under the what-ever-i-want-them-to-be category. And valentines is one of those holidays where I send hearts and love to people who i love. It just doesn’t have to be a boyfriend or girlfriend, it could be a neighbour, friend, Nana, Uncle, Mom or Dad. Its kind of nice to send flowers or chocolates or even grade 5 valentine cards to people who don’t expect it. I think it makes the day more special.

Hello, Michele sent me to say that I have had to reconsider Valentine’s Day lately. Since I don’t have a significant other - I celebrate the friendships and family I have on that day. I’ll send candy, flowers, handcrafted gifts, and cards.

I love Valentine’s Day because it is the holiday of LOVE. For my sweetest friends and sisters, and my Mom I usually give them a pretty candle or chocolates. For my honey, I give coupons for nice things I can do for him ( for example: he gets to win in an arguement even if he’s wrong!) One time I gave him a coupon for dinner of his choice for himself and a few friends. The coupons are always special because I can get creative with them. It’s hard for me to enjoy Valentine’s Day though because one of the businesses I own is a FLOWER SHOP ( indoorjungleflorist.com) and I am always VERY BUSY for Valentine’s Day

Hey, Ash! I don’t usually stop back when Michele sends someone my way, but … I did today. I like what I see of your art in your sidebar. This could be dangerous… maybe we’ll have to collaborate at some point.
And yes, DO enter something in the carnival if you can think of a good post! Carnivals are fun!

There’s something delightfully comforting about being stuck inside while a blizzard rages just outside the window. I find those are my best writing days because they do something neat to my soul.
Valentine’s Day? Like so many holidays, I fear it’s become overcommercialized. No surprise given why it was created in the first place. But some folks think one day’s worth of effort can make up for 364 days of ignorance. I’d rather inject a little slice of St. Valentine into every day I’m privileged to be with my wife.

Oops, my aging brain: forgot to say I dropped by from Michele’s today. Good to e-see you again!

came here from west of mars. i’m one of the progressive dinner carnival hosts and am looking forward to your submission!
re valentine’s. i’m originally from germany, where people didn’t celebrate valentine’s day at all (i think they do now). in my early twenties, i lived in paraguay, in south america.
one day in february, this american business associate of mine asked me to come to dinner with him. he made it sound all very special and i had no idea why. when we got to the place - quite a fancy one - again, he was being all “significant” so i finally asked him what this was all about. “it’s valentine’s day!” he said.
“what’s valentine’s day?” i asked (it wasn’t celebrated in paraguay either). well, then he explained it to me. the poor guy felt quite awkward. i thought it was kind of funny but told him that had i known this, i probably wouldn’t have accepted the dinner invitation for that particular day; didn’t want to mislead him because i had no romantic interest in him.
so that’s how i was first introduced to valentine’s day.
