Ok, a warning before I proceed. Even thought this site is for women, I do have some men who stop by. This post is *very* female specific...just so you know :)
I realized some thing this morning and it wowed me. My boobs don't hurt. I'm on my cycle and my boobs have not hurt and don't hurt now. Really, this is a big deal! I have always had long, heavy nasty periods, but as I got closer to 40, oh my, wicked, wicked. (Just ask hubby!) One of the things I experienced besides ovary pain was that my breasts would hurt terribly for weeks...sometimes months on end. I mean, hurt BAD. Made me think I was pregnant a few times. I was also having periods that were lasting whole months with maybe a week in between. (not good for the romance department) As I have talked about before, I decided to do some research and got Dr. Christiane Northrup's book The Wisdom of Menopause: Creating Physical and Emotional Health and Healing During the Change, 2nd Edition After reading, I realized that I must be experiencing 'estrogen dominance'. (All I am sharing is my experience and not a medical diagnosis for someone else) So, I stopped drinking milk and started using Soy Milk. I had started using whey protein to up my protein levels, so I started making my own smoothies each morning. The ingrediants were a variation of: Veggie and fruit juices Yogurt Whey Protien Powder Frozen fruit After cutting out dairy, I changed my smoothie recipe: Veggie and fruit juices Soy Milk Ground Flax Seed or I found an oil that is a combination of organic cold expeller-pressed flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil and borage seed oil ( I use a tablespoon of it in my smoothie and can't tell it is in there at all) Frozen fruit I also started taking a lot of the herb Dong Quai ( a female hormonal balancer) I have been doing this for about 4 mos and have lost weight, but now...my periods are normal! Only 4 days long and NO boob pain or ovary pain! I still have a bit of PMS emotional stuff...but no where near as bad as it use to be! Except for a bit of my favorite types of cheeses (bleu, feta and goat) I really don't have much dairy in my diet anymore. The other change was I found this amazing tasting flax seed and almond bread that I toast and add organic virgin coconut oil and a bit of organic blackberry jam. Not only is it addictive and scrumptious, coconut oil is very good for you! I am so happy to realize these changes! I'll post more about diet changes as I talk more about my weight-loss stuff. But, for now, having pain-free/non swollen breasts...ahhhh...heaven! :)

  • oh yes coconut oil has so many benefits. it is good for your heart, Promote weight loss when and if you need it, supports your immune system health, supports a healthy metabolism, provide you with an immediate energy source, helps to keep your skin healthy and youthful looking and more. eating healthy food will also makes you healthier and it will keep you away from certain disease. it’s good to know that you start living a healthy lifestyle.

  • Some nice tips there my breasts hurt often on my period so will take your advice

  • Of course THE most sensitive issue with milk is Lactose mostly. So a good whey such as those on our site have mimimal lactose therefore can be optimally used.
As an added dietary tool I also suggest an excellent source of omega fatty acids. Yes, they natural regulate ALL your Hormonal & immune system too.
In our 26 years as a Fulltime Naturopath I would recommend fishes such as Sardines, herring or anchovies.
A poor second is fresh/frozen Tuna steak or Salmon steak say 2-3 times weekly.
In the long term reduce Soy milk. Even Dr. Mercola from Mercola.com tells us their are way too many nasties therein.
Further, you ask an Asian person how much soy milk they drink a day & they will laugh at you.
    Why?
    Because they-dont-drink-it:They-ferment-it. (Big hint)
So; If you absolutely must eat soy-stuff then eat soy sauce, tempeh, tofu, etc.
Warmly Glen F Rees BSc, ND

  • Just quickly,
If you wish to look for lactose reduced whey just click my name link above. I’m very sorry Paisley goddess.

Previous name link was full of errors.

  • I think your solutions of switching from milk to soy milk, whey and yogurt could be a good alternative for many folks out there experience the same problems that you did or other illnesses as well. Not everyone will gain from drinking milk. Yes in western countries children are advised to drink milk when they grow up but after they reach around 20 they shouldn’t drink too much. Dairy products with probiotics are a better choice, the yogurt you drink you should contains it or switch brand.
